Weekend photographs

Tonight I decided I am going to take a different approach on my blog. I am going to post more photos then normal. They were taken over the last week and weekend. I will write a short synopsis about each image.

The last few months while driving to and from I have watched the progress of a new bank being built in Driggs. Their sign caught my attention as it showed that they were planning on including an architectual detail from the community. I was excited to see how it would look. I think it will be a really nice touch and will do a good job representing the community.

As anybody that owns a truck knows friends can always count on you to help them out. I wasn't sure if I could pull it out as she did a pretty good job burying her car in the snowbank. I tried a few times and all four wheels spun. I went and bought a few bags of sand for weight and for under each tire for traction. It did the trick.

Darren and I go out photographing a lot. It is a really nice chance to get out and see the sites even if I don't do much photographing all the time. Darren always seems to photograph much more then I do. Usually I am along for the ride. This trip I did a lot of watching and hanging out but still had lots of fun. Check out his blog for more info about this photo outing. Darren Clark: Wanderings

Darren asked for my opinion on a little editing for a show he is hanging soon. After all, I am now a professional "Photography Editor" by trade. It was a pretty easy edit. He has great work and he had alredy edited it down to 20 and all I had to do was help him eliminate another 7. Easiest edit I have done in a while. Sure beats looking through 10,000 similar images and finding the best.

This weekend I had the opportunity to do a little dog sitting. His name is Loup and he is my boss's dog. Loup is a great dog. Him and Rusty make the queen size bed a little crowded though.

Darren, Susan, Kristi and I had a great time on Saturday night. We went to Chiz's (Darren we forgot to make any photographs) and then we went to "Walk the Line". It is a great movie and if you haven't seen it I think one should.

Here is sunday night's dinner. An adaptation of Alton Brown's recipe.
Pan Seared Rib Eye: Recipe courtesy Alton Brown
Try it, it is the best steak you will eat.

Here is the view I was treated to on the way to work. Before I got into a position where I thought I could make a film photograph the light had gone. Amazing really. I love living in the "shadow of the tetons". As this photo demonstrates, literally.

Enjoy.

Zion Images revisited

I recently received an email from a customer that purchased some of my photographs in the past. She wants to purchase a few more for her office. Great news! Returning customers are always a good sign.

Here are two sets of four I have assembled for her view and to assist with her decision. It's some older work but I think it is pretty nice still. I agree with Darren in that I need to go back and make some newer work. I'll try to make it down a few times this next summer.

Enjoy.

Home from my trip

Most of you probably don't know I even went on a trip or why I have neglected my blog for the last 17 days. Well, let me tell you.

I made a very last minute trip to Los Angeles last week. We left two fridays ago and just returned this last weekend. It was a working trip and not much of a vacation. However it was REALLY nice to enjoy the warm weather. We had mid 70s all the time we were there. Back home they had -10s. SWEET! I am so sad I missed it.

The trip was to clean out my grandma's house and bring home the remaining items in the house before it is sold. I am going to post pictures in reverse order for a reason I won't bore you with. Ok, I'll bore you. I only have the recent images in Jackson with me and the photos from the earlier part of the trip are on my mom's laptop.

Driving to LA took us only 15 hours. On the way home, it took us over 20. Tonight's photos show one of the reasons why. Other reasons include President's Day weekend exodus from L.A. and stupid drivers that got in accidents in Salt Lake from driving too fast on icy roads that made the freeway move at 20mph. In L.A. we drove 60 miles in 3 hours. Ugh. Oh, we also wasted a little time in Vegas and threw a few quarters into the good old slot machines. $6 lost for over an hour of entertainment. Can't imagine losing much more then that though.

As for the photos, we have all seen those misc scraps of tire tread scattered on the freeway. Well, I contributed a little bit of my own to this common freeway decoration. A professor of mine said truck drivers call them aligators.

Let me tell you, when your tread rips off like this it makes a pretty big BANG! Woke me right up from my road trip enduced trance. And this all happened only an hour into our second day of driving.

Thank goodness for Road-side assistance provided by Budget of course.

Dinner

I like my job. I just don't like having a job. I like what I do for work and I think I am good at it and am finally getting paid for what I have spent the last 10 years learning how to do. But having a job is very restrictive. Yes it is really nice to finally pay off some credit card debt and have extra cash on hand but having a job ties you down. If I didn't have a job I could do what ever I wanted tomorrow. I could go to Mexico if I so felt like it. But having a job is what allows me to afford having the funds to go to Mexico.

Without a job, I had the time but not the money. Now I have the money but not the time.

This is just me rambling.

I worked a 10 hour day today. It wasn't too bad. When I came home I cooked up some ham and asparagus. Here is a picture of the asparagus before I cooked it. I ate it too fast to photograph it afterwards.
